On another unit I have XP Home loaded over Win 98. When shutting down
yesturday I got the message automatic updates were being downloaded. When
booting up today I got "windows could not start because the following file is
missing r corrupt: Windows root>\system.32\hal.dll. I cannot get a regular
response when hitting F4 but I did and it asked for a system disc which I did
but got no response. I can't e-mail Microsoft because I can't get the prod
ID # from the computer. They take your money but won't help. Can anyone help
this frustrated old man?
