Error message while loading Norton Anti-virus

Everytime I try to load Norton Anti-Virus 2004 on my e-
Machine computer (running Windows XP Home Edition), I get
an error message that reads Memory Access Violation in
Module Kernel 32. If I continue the download then I can
not open any of my programs, and have to go to system
restore. Can any on please help me with this problem?
