Arrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh! This is driving me crazy. I have bought software
and when I try to install it, it says:

16 bit windows subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application.

I have found the link to the microsoft knowledge base article (Article ID :
324767) and followed it to the letter (several times) but I still can't get
it to work. Any ideas....please, please, please!
Thanks, Cameron

What application are you tring to install?
What windows are you using?
What Service Pack is installed (if any) on your windows?

Hi, you will have to excuse my lack of info, this is not something I do
regularly!
1. A workshop manula for my car (no manufacturer details)
2. Windows XP Home Edition
3. Service pack 2
Thanks Alex.

Do you have a Windows CD with an i386 directory or do you have an I386
directory on your hard drive (usually a sub-folder of Windows)?
If so, use msconfig to expand autoexec.nt_ to autoexec.nt and place it in
c:\windows\System32.
