Hi,
When I try to open a word file (using work 2007 in a vista platform) an
error message pops up saying that 'windows cannot find the 'XXXXX (file
name)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again'. I can
open the word files if I first enter the word program and then search for the
file but this gets a bit tedious.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance--
Lindy

First see how to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm and if that doesn't
fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open
with...

From the ensuing dialog select Word (winword.exe) and check the box to
always open with this application.

Hi Graham, Thanks for your help. However I have tried both of the suggestions
and neither seemed to work.
Re-registering seemed to make no difference and the box you mentioned was
already clicked. In fact when I tried to "open with" word, it again would
only open word but not the file.
Thanks for the suggestions.
If any one can solve this mystery much appreciated
Cheers

HI LIndy: Did anyone ever answer this problem satisfactorily? I have the
same problem and it is a pain.

Has this started quite recently? There was an on-line update (installed here
yesterday) that appears to have provoked this issue here. I have just rolled
back to the time, yesterday morning, immediately before that update was
installed and the normal working has resumed. When on-line updates again get
around to offering this update, I'll install it again and see if the problem
re-occurs.

If that is not the issue repairing Office should fix the registry.

Is that XP SP3? I've been hearing a few horror stories. Fortunately, I don't
seem to have got it yet--it was offered weeks ago, and I accepted the offer
but so far have not gotten the download.
