Error message when opening Excel 2000

Hi everyone, can you please advise on the following
strange error. I'm using XL 2000, and when I opened the
application this morning, I received the following
error: "cannot use object linking and embedding". I
restarted my computer and the problem has since
dissapeared. Why would the error have occured in the
first place?
