When trying to load CD-Rom for bellsouth.net dsl access, I
received error message IW-XP-01.4 Release/Renew Failed.
I don't know if a file is needed for the computer or
what. I'm helping an elderly neighbor, her niece sent her
a new computer, and I don't know what to do. I loaded dsl
on my computer with no problem; so I volunteered to help
this lady. Does anyone know what this error message
means, I don't know where to find it on the website, and
what I should do now?

Also, but unrelated to above, when I unpacked the computer
and turned it on, a message comes up that there is a
diskette drive A error 02B0. Did some hardware get loose
during the mailing process? Thanks from a non-techie
volunteer! :-)

Sounds like a cable came loose on the a drive or the a drive is dead.
For the modem that message means the modem could not pull a valid ip
address. I would call the bellsouth tech support and have them walk you thru
setting up the modem. Most likely modem drivers need to be loaded.
