I have installed the trial version of winDVD7 on both the home &
office computer.

on the home computer, all works without problem. on the office
computer, I cannot get the program to show the movie dvd. it displays
an error message "cannot create overlay".

in addition to installing windDVD, I have installed the following which
were recommended in their
instruction sheet:

Microsoft DirectX 9
WMFormatSDK
Windows Media Player 10

I am operating Windows XP with service pack 2 installed.

Any suggestions on how to get this program going.? On the home
computer it appears to be a powerful program.

best, Aaron

sound like an issue with your display adapter, drivers.
check your device manager under display adapter, what is the make and model?
manufacturers site may have updated drivers for it. like
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
or
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
these are the 2 most common.
or maybe your office computer is not capable of playing DVD's as its
designed for office applications. you only listed what type of OS your are
running, no mention at all of your hardware. you will need to provide
details of your hardware and OS environment to get more help from people
here.
best of luck

Dear Captain: how right you are! I followed your suggestion and
looked for an updated driver for my older video cards. The web site of
the card maker said that the card was obsolete and therefore no longer
supported (ie: no new drivers).

I therefore went over to Fry's & purchased an Nvdia GeForce FX card for
$69 less $30 mail in rebate (I hope). Installed it, and guess what,
WinDVD now works.

My appreciation is paramount. With thanks! Aaron
