Error message - "Unable to import"

I have video footage captured using Pinnacle Studio 9 which saved it as an
avi file. When I tried to use it in Movie Maker I got the "unable to import"
error message. I captured the same original footage using Movie Maker which
saved it as a wmv file. When I tried to import the file which Movie Maker
had just created I got the same "unable to import" error message. What's
going on here? Thanks for any help.

For the WMV it sounds like you may have either a corrupted movie maker
installation, see here and visit the link at the bottom

or

The wmv got corrupted on capture. Try capturing as a dv-avi file

Pinnacle probably uses a different type of avi to MM, so by using one of the
converters listed here you can change it over and use it. No loss of
quality.

This explains the differences
