Error message trying to delete file from USB flash device

I recently backed up files (mostly Excel doc's) onto my USB flash device. In
the process, some folders mysteriously appeared with "jibberish" contents.
When I try to delete these folders I get an "ERROR DELETING FILE OR FOLDER"
"Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk. Help!? How
do I get rid of these?
