error message opening a file

I keep getting an error message when i open a file:
"document (filename) is already open"

Can anyone help me,

Close Excel. Do a search to see if you can find a file with a similar name
but beginning with ~ (tilde). If the file is called Accounts a search with
this word will find ~Accounts. Delete the temporary file if found.
