This is The Upgrade XP Home Edition with SP-2 included. While trying
to instal a game Command and Conquer Generals, I get this Error:
_is4.tmp has encountered a problem. Any work not saved may be lost.

If I hit OK, the installation stops. I did a Google search for this
error message an only found four instances. None had anything about
what causes it or how to fix it. An e-mail to EA, the game manufacturer,
resulted in no reply so far after a week.

Empty your temp folder and try the install again. Leftover temporary files
from other installations can cause a new install to fail. This might be
what you're up against.

To empty the temp folder, set Folder Options> View to show hidden
files/folders. May have to change the setting to show system files/folders
as well. Then open My Computer or Windows Explorer to
\Documents and Settings\<your account>\Local Settings\Temp

Click on Edit> Select All and press the Delete key. If a file is in use,
windows will complain and stop the delete process. Select All again if
necessary. Press Ctrl and click the first file in the list. Press Delete
key again. Repeat as necessary until the folder is as empty as you can get
it.
