Folks:

I got a new Vista Home Premium 64 bit laptop. I am using Windows Live Email
to download/send emails from the AT&T Uverse servers. Here is the error
message I get when I try to "sync" the email for this account:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Uverse Email Account account.
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity.

Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

By the way, windows live email with the exact same settings works fine on
Windows XP Professional (32 bit) on my old laptop.

Also, I get the same error in Windows Mail on the vista laptop (so it is not
unique to windows live email).

Any clues?

Which antivirus are you running?
Do you have your antivirus configured to scan emails?

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Incidentally, it is better to post questions about Windows Live Mail
in its own newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...dg=microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
or via your news reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

I had the same problem when I received my new Dell PC with Vista premium.
After much effort, it was determined that I had a bad network card which was
replaced by Dell (wiithin warranty period). All is well now.
