"Some errors occurred while completing the requested task" and this is at the
bottom:

Account: 'Mail', Server: 'pop.cogeco.ca', Protocol: POP3, Server Response:
'-ERR unknown command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90,
Error Number: 0x800CCC18

We just bought and set this computer up three days ago and each of us (3)
have this problem as soon as we open our mail. Once you close it you can
read your mail no problem, it's just a nuisance.

Windows Mail often behaves erratically when interfered with by
some antivirus programs. Windows Mail is not compatible with
most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to
be uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Thank you Gary! I have heard from several people to just say NO to Norton
and McAfee so indeed I shall download one of the programs you suggested.

I do have Avast professional edition but it still will not let me download
the emails from gmail. If there is any other suggestions I would greatly
appreciate it as well and I have already disabled all email scanning in the
Avast preferences. Thanks.

See here for how to set up to connect to gmail:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86383

These instructions cover both the IMAP method of connecting
and the POP method. Choose one of these, and don't get
them mixed up.
