Error Message: "Document PERSONAL.xls is already open"

Hi to the Group,

After a hard drive crash and re-installation from backup my macros
attached to buttons won't work.

I just get error message saying:
"A document with the name 'PERSONAL.xls' is already open. You cannot
open two documents with the same name"

The same thing happens with my XL XTRAS add-in. When I chose one of
the additional menu options I get error message saying 'XL XTRAS'
already open.

Can someone PLEEEEZE help?

Try clearing out the following directories first and then relaunch Excel:-


** Windows 95/98/ME
C:\Windows\Temp File

** Windows NT/2000/XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\local settings\temp directory

Worked perfectly on the Add-ins problem.

Not on the macros though. HOWEVER I discovered each of my custom
buttons is assigned to:

'C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel
\XLSTART\PERSONAL.xls'!<macro name>

instead of to:

PERSONAL.xls!<macro name>

Dunno how this happened or where this default address is stored so I
guess I will just have to tediously go through each one changing the
assignment address back straight to PERSONAL.xls.

That is your personal.xls or least what it was.
