"There was an error opening this message.

This occurs when I want to create/reply or forward a new message for
an email or newsgroup. Also I cannot copy anything from an OE6 message
(lke an URL) to the clipboard. This is unlike anything I've ever
experienced. Suggestions? Virus? Worm?

I don't think it's a virsu or anything of that nature. I have seen this before. What you might want to try doing is reinstall OE6. To do that in Windows 2000 you must first change a registry setting:

Start | Run | regedit | Ok

Navigate to and select:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

On the right, change the

Name: IsInstalled
Data: 1

to

Name: IsInstalled
Data: 0

Then reinstall IE6.

Well I downloaded my windows update files, got rid of some viruses with AVG
and all is well. I have no idea what was responsible!
