error message after a prog has been uninstalled

Hello,
I am running XP Home SP3 plus all the lasted updates.
I installed a demo program and as it did not do what i had hoped so I
uninstalled it using the Windows Add/Remove as it did not have its own
uninstall.
I am now getting a message "Demo has expired" when I start my PC. The
software vendor answer is purchase a full copy that I will not do as it did
not do what i had hoped.
I have looked in the msconfig and it does appear in there.
I have not looked in the registory.
I would welcome any suggestions.
Kind regards,

Walter, go to C:\Program Files. Look for the demo folder. If there
delete. Then go to Start>Run type: regedit and go to
HKey_Current_User\Software. Look for demo folder
and delete. Same for HKey_Local_Machine\Software.

Rich, I checked the areas that you mention but I still received the error
message on boot up, any way I looked further in the registry for the
assurance and I found a number which I deleted, I rebooted and the error
message has not reappear.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, you were very helpful.
Kind regards,
Walter

Walter, can you give me the path you followed to the number in the
Registry? Just for my own Info.

Hello Rich, I just the Find option in Regedit for the application and just
deleted the entry, then Find Next until I removed all entries of the
application, I of coarse made a backup of the registry before I started to
delete anything.

I generally find it worth also searching for the name of the company
that makes the application, including older variations (for example, if
removing a Roxio product, I'd search for the name of the product - in
all variations, such as ECDC and Easy - then I'd search for Roxio, then
I'd search for Adaptec). Obviously, be careful doing this if you have
other products by the same company/ies installed. Similarly, look in the
"Common Applications" section in C:\Program Files - a lot of software
puts stuff there.

All's well that ends.
