error message 1706

Jared

I started geting the following error message after I tried
to install a converter for a WordPerfect document:

The path "microsoft XP Standard cannot be found. Try to
find installation package STD.MSI in a folder from which
you can install Microsoft Office XP Standard."

My computer runs Windows 2000 Professional. The error
message comes on when I launch Microsoft Outlook. Any
suggestions how I can get rid of the message?

Sounds like launching Microsoft Outlook results in either an on-demand
installation or an application repair of Office. Are you not able to provide the
std.msi as requested (perhaps through the Office XP CD-ROM)?

As for figuring out why you're getting prompted, check the application event log
for MsiInstaller warning messages with event ids 1001 and 1004. They should
indicate what resource is failing detection and is resulted in the installation.
The Troubleshooting section of the MSI FAQ at <
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/community/centers/management/msi_faq.mspx >
has some more information on how to track down the problem.

Hope this helps,
