Error log

I checked my MSAS folder and found my error log.

It´s 4,6 MB large now and I dont like large logfiles.

Most of it is from start and a lot is like this

91::ln 20:Object variable or With block variable not
set:c:\windows\$hf_mig$\kb834707\spmsg.dll::gcASThreatAudit:modScannerFiles:IsFileThreat::2005-02-05
02:21:47:1.0.501
91::ln 20:Object variable or With block variable not
set:c:\windows\$hf_mig$\kb834707\spuninst.exe::gcASThreatAudit:modScannerFiles:IsFileThreat::2005-02-05
02:21:47:1.0.501
91::ln 20:Object variable or With block variable not
set:c:\windows\$hf_mig$\kb834707\sp2qfe\browseui.dll::gcASThreatAudit:modScannerFiles:IsFileThreat::2005-02-05
02:21:47:1.0.501

My system was almost clean and I can imagine if a user start
this
with a Zombie PC everything goes down.

Is something wrong during/directly after install.

Other user with big error logs ?

try not to manually shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware on the
systemtray icon it will slowdown the size i think. i've
tried to shutdown microsoft antispyware manually and
notice each time i do it, the error.log get larger.

try it if it does get error.log get larger is you shut it
down manualy on the systemtray as I'm not fully sure if
that is the cause of error.log getting bigger.

the more you contribute the more this software will
improve dramatically and be better. please reply if you
tried the following example i've post

You can open it in Notepad and delete any or all parts to
reduce its size. For example, after installing the updated
beta, I deleted all entries prior to that date.

The line I see repeatedly is

438::ln 0:Object doesn't support this property or
method::gcasDtServ:modMain:ShutDown::20/02/2005
03:01:18:1.0.509

The date stamps indicate that is the line added every time
I shut down from the icon tray.

But 4.6MB would indicate rather more problems than I've
ever encountered. You might try reinstalling or use
add/remove click here for more support information, repair;
or change, update (not tried that one).

There's clearly stuff in these log files that you wouldn't expect in a
finished product. In some cases, the log files have been known to grow very
quickly, filling partitions. I'm not sure what the largest I've heard of
is--perhaps 4 gigabytes?

It is worth keeping an eye on, and perhaps deleting periodically, as is the
content of your TEMP folder which gets a couple of files per startup left
lying around by the beta, as well.

Of course I can delete it but beacuse this is a Beta
error logs are important.

In a final version logsize etc must be user controlled.

I like automated "talk back" functions during Betas
and with MSAS I cant see such functions for system
behavior. (and please no "calling Mum" in final version
except for updates)

Temp files is a real mess in XP, almost all programs
leaves a lot of rubbish. Most users cant find this files
beacuse these files are default hidden.

One more thing is to minimize IE.s cache to minimum, I
set all caches to 1MB to avoid problem. (If a user is on
a Cable, xDSL connection or better)

I took part in a chat with some knowledgable folks about IE and they all
said that the defaults for cache size make no sense at all. Different
people used different limits, but they all picked smaller than the defaults
on todays drives.

I believe that the use of the Internet to talk back is very clearly
delineated, and controllable in the beta so far. I haven't tried turning
all that off and testing, but it looks very carefully labeled and
controllable to me.

In terms of automated talk backs for the betas, there isn't much that is
specific to the beta--crash reports do go to the folks who need them, and
the spynet reporting--items you approve, disapprove, whether you choose to
turn on that feature, and the suspected spyware reports are working for
many, but not all.

Why did they pick a smaller ? IE´s cache is messed with
garbage.

First advice when you clean a system is to empty this cache and
a users temp folder under local settings which is a hidden
folder
within XP.

IMHO it must be a really good advice to minimize this
garbage chamber
to lowest possible size.
