Error loading OS

OK, I just recently built a new computer. I have an asus A8N SLI Premium
motherboard. I was running XP 64 on a little 20gig hdd. I bought a 300gig IDE
hdd. It had no probelm recognizing the hdd and all 300gigs. So I wanted to
use only the 300gig split into equal partitions. 1/2 for the OS and
applications. the other 1/2 for media. So, while attempting to format and
load the OS, at the point were the setup files have been loaded and the pc
reboots, I receive an "error loading os". So I have attempted partitioning in
different ways, and not a bit of difference. I figured it was probably my
bios. I am currently waiting on a flloppy drive so that I may Flash the Bios
with an updated version. The bios date is approx 11/2005. So I would assume
that they would have support for a hdd of this size. Any ideas?
