Error Loading OS - WinXP Professional

I get the following message - "Error Loading OS" - after installing a new
hard drive (Seagate 200GB) and booting the machine (master). A little
background information: I have a Maxtor 40GB as the original hard drive. I
installed the new Seagate drive (slave) and then used the WinXP Pro upgrade
CD to install a new version of XP Pro on the disk. Everything seems to have
installed properly, however, I can only boot off the Maxtor disk. I have
three options - 1) boot into DOS, 2) boot into Win2k Pro off the Maxtor disk,
and now a third - 3) boot into Win2k Pro off the Seagate disk. If I choose
option 3, it works fine. However, when I move the Seagate drive to master I
get the "Error Loading OS" message. How can I boot off this disk so I can
migrate off the Maxtor and retire it? Any comments appreciated. Thanks,

Perhaps it might have been better had the Maxtor HD been
removed entirely and a clean installation of Windows XP
was done on the Seagate HD. What was the original intent?
Was it to dual-boot Windows 2000 and Windows XP? If it was
for the dual-boot, a fix by editing the boot.ini file in
the root of the Maxtor HD (or Drive C) might suffice. The
boot.ini file would have to point to the location of Windows
XP on the Seagate HD (or Drive D).
