Do a Clean Install: When you get to the part of the install where setup
tells you that
Windows XP is already installed on the system: Press the ESC key, and opt
to remove that
partition (usually C:\), then create that partition again and format it,
then continue
with the install. Make sure you backed up all of your data files, because
the partition
will be wiped clean. You will have to reinstall any software. You will
also have to
install any drivers which are not on the Windows XP Pro CD. You can
download the drivers
at the HP site, or if you've installed some hardware which is not HP, and
don't have the
CD for that hardware, you can download the drivers at the web site of the
maker of that
hardware.

If I try a Win XP Pro retail CD and the same thing occurs, what should I
try
next?
Your OEM Windows XP CD is most probably tied to the motherboard of the
system that it was
shipped with, and will not install on any other system...

Ok, same thing, same computer, HP 864N. It won't install using the
recovery
CDs and now it won't take my Windows XP Home OEM cd installation.
After
it
copies all the files it says Error loading operating system.
