Error loading operating system

I get the message "error loading operating system" on
bootup.

i can get into xp by using the boot disk which contains
the file boot.ini

i have tried various methods to fix this problem
including altering mxconfig, trying to ammend boot.ini
i have also tried updating the bios.

is there anything else someone can suggest apart from
blow the machine away and re-install XP

Since you can get into Windows, look in Event Viewer for clues. Perhaps
your hard drive is failing. I'd definitely run a diagnostic utility on
it. You can get one from the mftr.'s website.

I have this same problem with a scsi 29160 and a IBM ultrastar on a fresh install many are having trouble with boot. Still waiting far an answer.
