error in XP install

On a working Win 98 system I tried to install XP Pro intending to get an
upgrade and get all the software transfered to the XP setup. The xp installed
in a seperate folder instead of c:\windows (in C:\Winxp). The win xp install
completed and I can now only boot to xp pro but no software made the upgrade.
All the data and Win 98 files seem to be intact. My question...is there any
way to undo the xp install and recover back to the 98 install?

Mr.Denny,
The install completed abut was put into the C:\winxp folder and not in the
c:\windows folder and therefore did not install the registry data of the
original setup and will not dual boot to win 98 (they are in the same
partition). My question is can this new install be reversed back to the
original Win 98 install without data loss?

How did you manage to install XP onto the same partition as Win 98, as there
is a warning given during the install as to avoiding this?
