Error in MS-DOS and Windows Applications

Would anybody know why I'm getting this error message. The message is
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application." I don't really know what is going on here so if
anybody has any information please share. Thanx.

Nick, WinXP doesn't use Dos like you did in Windows 98 series.
The closest you can come is to use CMD.exe on the Run line.
Then type CD\ to put you in the root directory.
Almost all the former Dos commands can still be used there.
Autoexec.bat and Config.sys are no longer in use.
Autoexec.NT and Config.NT are the new ones, and can only used with caution.

Seems to be an epidemic lately....

This can be caused by a trojan/virus/worm.

Get rid of the trojan/virus/worm.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

Copy the autoexec.nt file from C:\Windows\Repair to C:\Windows\System32
And set Attributes for autoexec.nt to Read-only.

Or %systemroot%\Repair to %systemroot%\System32

1. Right click the file.
2. Properties.
3. Select: Read-only.
4. Click: Apply.
5. Click: OK.
