Error Importing Files into New Web

R

Rebecca

I'm running a copy of FP 2000 on my local machine. When
trying to import a web, I click through the screens that
indicate that "directories containing wWeb configuration
will not be imported (part of my typical, successful
procedure) and I'm getting an error message that reads:

"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files.
Authors - if authoring against a web server, please
contact the webmaster for this server's site. WebMasters -
please see the systm log for more details."

I'm totally perplexed. I've never ever seen this before!

I tried:

1. Shutting down the software and restarting
2. Restarting my computer
3. Creating a new web and importing another set of web
files
4. Looking for a local copy of a web server, but I don't
see that one's been installed
5. If I go into each directory and import the files in
small groups, they transfer just fine. Problem with this
procedure is that I have several HUGE web sites with
multiple tiers of directories. Seems more efficient to
solve the problem than work around it.

HELP!

If the site you are trying to support has the FP extensions, then open the site directly in FP and
publish it to the location you want, don't use the import function.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your reply. The only problem is that the most
recent files are not located on the web server! (They are
on my local system in a backup folder.)

Publish the live site back to a folder on your computer, then drag-n-drop the recent set of file
from your backup folder into this new site folder.

I can't do that. My client won't allow me access to the
web server. (One of those control things, I guess.) I need
to be able to just import the web straight from a previous
backup. Unfortunately, an import from a WWW site oesn't
help either, because there are tons of rollover images in
in the web that aren't technically "linked" -- so FP
doesn't pick it up.

The adventure continues...

Question: If your client will not give you access, how will you make changes or additions and get
them back on the web?

You need to tell the client that if you can't have access, then you can't do any work on their site.

Anyway, what kind of back up do you currently have of this site?
