error compacting

MrLou

When attempting to compact a Access 97 database I receive
the following message at the end of the compacting.
"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process
because you and another user are attempting to change the
same data at the same time. -1611"

How can i correct this. No one else is in the database. I
attempted to export import compact, repair, ran
Jetcomp.exe etc. I read somewhere that opening this
database in Access2000 will correct this situation. Would
I be able to save it back to Access 97? Or, is there
another way to fix.

Mr. Lou:

1.) Don't open the db in Access 2000.
2.) Close the database and look in the folder where the db resides. If
there is a file with the same name as the db, but with an extension .ldb,
then delete the .ldb file (Only when the db is closed). Then try again.
You may simply have an orphaned ldb file which is causing the problem. (an
..ldb file is created by Access when any one opens the db, it records users
to manage locking.)

Thanks, but there are no .ldb's open. I have even moved
the database off the server and onto a local drive. No
success. It may be possible that the database or record
became locked one of the times we lost network connections.
The error gives me the table name but no record ID only
gibberish blocks.

By chance does this table include an OLE or memo datatype field?

Also, verify that you have the latest version of Jet 3.5 installed:
