Please can you help me. My computer keeps freezing, then it shuts down and
restarts. I get a pop up saying the system has just recovered from a serious
error and this is the error code that it shows:
BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : 00000400 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : F86B8A96 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

It then shows me 2 files that start C:|DOCUME~1/TONYJO~1/LOCALS~1?Temp
but I cannot find these files anywhere on my system.
Can someone please tell me what is going wrong. I am running Windows XP home.
Thanks
Den

You're welcome Den. There are several possible causes for that error,
including a faulty hardware device driver, memory problems, or a problem
with the page file.. The first step in troubleshooting is to undo whatever
last changes were made to the system. Have you installed any new hardware
and drivers? If so remove them. Have you updated any drivers? This can
sometimes happen inadvertently through windows updates if you use automatic
updates. As a general rule you should never get device driver updates
through windows update unless it is an MS manufacture red device.

If there has been a driver update go to Device Manager and roll back the
driver for that device or reinstall the latest drivers for all hardware from
the device manufacturer's web site. If the computer is from a large OEM
like Dell or HP visit their web site for the drivers. For on board devices
get them from the motherboard manufacturer's web site.

To test the memory use at least two of these utilities. They will create a
bootable CD or floppy. Boot from that and let each one run for 12-24 hours.
Any errors and replace the RAM. If there are multiple sticks of RAM test
with just one.

The pagefile issue is easy to test. Turn off the page file, reboot, then
turn it back on, and reboot again. Set it to system managed. Right click
My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab | Performance - Settings | Advanced
| Change. Click Set after making any changes. When setting the page file,
put it to System Managed.
