Hi,

You may want to read some of the links here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=windows+update+0x80070005

Or post directly to the update group for more detailed assistance:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

By the way, this:
0000: 57 69 6e 33 32 48 52 65 Win32HRe
0008: 73 75 6c 74 3d 30 78 38 sult=0x8
0010: 30 30 37 30 30 30 35 20 0070005
0018: 55 70 64 61 74 65 49 44 UpdateID

etc, etc.....is just the ASCII code for the error message itself, not very
useful. For the error message, it may or may not be related. Does the time
of the error coincide with the visit to the update site?

thanks for the help,
managed to sort it out folowing the google links (had to run about 6 dll
things in the start menu), that fixed the validation tool, but then service
pack 2 wouldnt update, this was due to having 'loginloader (start up screen)'
- a kernel or something was stopping service pack 2 updating.
