Error-checking in C:

M

Matthew W. I. Dunn

How does one set up the Error-Checking tool (also, ScanDisk or Disk Check?)
as a Scheduled Task for Drive C:?

I'm running XP SP3

When the Scheduled Tasks wizard came up, I chose Browse. Then, I went C: >
Docs & Settings > All Users > Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System
Tools. But, no luck finding it there as an option.

Thanks!

To start Check Disk

1. Open My Computer, right-click a drive, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now
then you get a dialog box, check "Automatically fix file system errors"
3. Click Start

You'll then have a message saying that it needs exclusive access and will
run next time you reboot.

How does that schedule chkdsk? That merely runs it the next time the
computer boots!

It doesn't.

The file in question is under Windows/System32\chkdsk.exe

Personally I prefer to manually schedule the task. Never tried setting a
scheduled task for the same.

I agree with your sentiments about manual scheduling. I would only run
chkdsk if there was a problem. There rarely is.
