Using Windows XP Home Edition. How often and for what purpose do I use Error
Check under Properties in Local Disk (C:).

chkdsk usually runs automatically after some shutdown error. Go to start/run, and type:

HH "%windir%\Help\ntcmds.chm::/chkdsk.htm

Thanks for the reply. Should I run chkdsk on a regular basis as I do clean
disc and defragmentation?

If chkdsk can't fix a drive, I consider it 'dead'. I use its error messages to warn me of imminent drive failure. Defrag has a built
in warning that tell you if you need it.
