Error at startup

Since 3 days now every time I launch windows XP Pro and when the desktop
appears, the system slows down, and finally I get a message saying that
winchk16.exe encountered a problem and needs to close.

As I have no idea what winchk16.exe can be I ran Norton anti virus and
AdAware (both, along with Windows, with the latest definitions and updates),
but nothing suspicious was detected.

I also ran msconfig and it appears that winchk16 is launched... by
winchk16.exe, and located in
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run


Any idea?

This looks like a virus or maybe spyware. Make sure your antivirus is up to date and run a updated spyware program to see if one of these programs find it. If not go to msconfig and uncheck it so it will not run and see what happens.
