error after starting disk cleanup

as soon as i choose the drive for disk cleanup to scan, i get a "send error
report and debug button" dialog box. how can i stop this from happening so i
can use disk cleanup? thanks in advance for any help.

also, i looked through the posts for help and couldn't find any answers.

Have you tried CHKDSK /r on the drive to check for errors?

Make sure you have a full and complete backup of important data before
running chkdsk. You should always have a backup, but especially before a
chkdsk.

Hope you realize that if the filesystem drive has problems, either the
backup will fail and/or be corrupted and should not be trusted for a
restore.
