Error after executing fbreseal.exe; error code: 0x80090006

David Gu

hi all~

I got a big problem using fbreseal.exe.

In TD, I added fbreseal component, and set cmiResealPhase 0.
After FBA, I installed new IDE extention card, and connected to 4 new
HDDs.
Finally, running fbreseal.exe, and the system re-boots up, and the
error occured.

Windows Product Activation:
A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license
for this computer. Error Code: 0x80090006

It's not a problem of Boot Partition Setting on TD.
(It's already set correctly, 3072MB)

If I ran fbreseal.exe without IDE extention card, There is no error.
All works is OK.

What's the cause of this case?

David,

What happens if you:
1) Install IDE extension card but not use fbreseal.exe? Just reboot (power up the device).
2) Run the image through FBA with the IDE extension card and HDDs presented?

David,

I don't have a clue but let's debug the problem a little bit.

Some steps you can do:
- make sure you have this QFE installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...cb-28d0-49e7-a059-400a7d6059e2&displaylang=en (some more info here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810144)

- use -keepall switch when you run fbreseal.exe. Make sure fbreseal got self-deleted.

- save (export) [HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices] just before the install, then install the card, run fbreseal and power down the
device. Open the image system hive offline and save the key content again. Analyze the differences (you can post the file here).

- clean up \windows\setupapi.log file just before the IDE card installation. Then analyze the log after you see the error screen
(again, please post the file here).

Btw, are you building SP1 or SP2 XPe image?

Thanks for your guide.

Some of your instructions are already tried.
1. Q810144 - already applied
2. -keepall switch is also used.
and I'll get the registry info. and log file that you required, ASAP.

My XPE Image is based on SP1 and all of hotfixs are appied.

AND
I set a system drive letter 'X:' when I format the HDD, expected the driver
letter might be changed to 'C:' when it boots up by HDD, and it really does.
(Because, I use WinPE CD to copy my XPE image and WinPE CD occupied 'C:')
Does this procedure have related my problem? Can it be a clue for you?

David,

That wouldn't be important what drive letter you assign when you formated the disk (you can even assign no letter there).

But important thing is your disk and partition configuration.

Also, I assume you are talking about your "main" disk that becomes the system parition, right?
How did you format other HDDs that you connect through the extension card? Can you format them with DOS fdisk and remove active flag
from any primary partition on those HDDs?

Regards,
KM

PS. Btw, I guess you tried that but still.. what happens if you clean up MountedDevices key right after fbreseal and before the
system is shut down?

No this can't be a problem.

The word 'main' - you said - means 'primary mater'?
The XPE image is copied primary mater disk's first partition and it was
activatied.
And extended disks are formated from other machine - no activated partition.
I didn't use fdisk. My Installation CD which is based on WinPE use
'diskpart' utility, and format NTFS.

David,

I don't see any obvious error in the files you sent. The new HDDs get installed properly and get thier G:, ... drive letters.
Since you system drive is C: you should be fine.

I gues you just found a bug in fbreseal.exe. Or it could be some additional activation check for hardware configuration that happens
at cloning phase. I only wonder why this check gets executed on next boot after fbreseal only.
Since the mplementation of fbreseal is not publicly documented, you may want to report the problem to MS:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/community/community/feedback/feedxp/default.aspx.

Btw, you can definitely stick with NewSID since it works just fine for you.

KM,

Thanks.
I'll send a bug report through that URL.

and, It was false that I told you - NewSID works fine.
It looks fine but doesn't stop. -_-;;
Therefore, Both of NewSID and fbreseal have simmilar problem.

First of all, I'll report this problem as bug to MS website, and find
solution continuely.
If you have interest to trace, I can send e-mail to you when I found any new
inform.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your kindness.

KM
In Addtion, NewSID(v4.03) by Sysinternals.com works without any error even
though IDE extention card is connected to addtional HDDs.

KM,

The files that you request are posted in my homepage.
http://data1.hompy.com/content.asp?...ge=1&startpage=1&key_select=&keyword=&ca_no=1

Can you format them with DOS fdisk and remove active
flag
from any primary partition on those HDDs?

Regards,
KM

PS. Btw, I guess you tried that but still.. what happens if you clean up MountedDevices key right after fbreseal and before the
system is shut down?

David Gu

David,

I don't have a clue but let's debug the problem a little bit.

Some steps you can do:
- make sure you have this QFE installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...cb-28d0-49e7-a059-400a7d6059e2&displaylang=en (some more info
here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810144)

- use -keepall switch when you run fbreseal.exe. Make sure fbreseal got self-deleted.

- save (export) [HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices] just before the install, then install the card, run fbreseal and power down
the
device. Open the image system hive offline and save the key content again. Analyze the differences (you can post the file
here).

- clean up \windows\setupapi.log file just before the IDE card installation. Then analyze the log after you see the
error
screen
(again, please post the file here).

Btw, are you building SP1 or SP2 XPe image?

KM

KM,

1) Install IDE extension card but not use fbreseal.exe? Just reboot (power
up the device).
-> It's OK

2) Run the image through FBA with the IDE extension card and HDDs presented?
-> Also OK, but the same error occured after fbreseal.exe

What's the problem? Help me

Fortunately, I could made normally resealed image.
Strange to say, I just built the same image again, and let it run FBA, and
then I checked out fbreseal works fine. There was no problem.

While on the other, I found new trouble withaddtional HDDs through IDE
extension card when FBA is running.
If without IDE extension card, the FBA works properly, while FBA wait
infinitely on the 'Installing PnP Device' step.
After FBA is done successfully, Installing IDE card is OK. (also driver
files are included at design time on TD.)

There must be some problem with IDE extension card and XPE.
Do you have any comment?
