Error 633 - Modem not available

Jon

I have a problem with a Tecra S1 laptop that is only a couple of weeks
old. I had been using the laptop fine on dialup. I switched off the
machine and came back to use it later only to fine the 633 error
message when I attempt to dial up. I have tried to reinstall the
drivers and other solutions recommended by other postings but this
fails. I have also tried to use Hyper Terminal to connect to COM3 but
this also fails.

After speaking to Techincal Support they have recommened reformating
the machine but this is not an option.

If anyone have any ideas or can tell me where I can obtain a copy of
rarepair.exe I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Jon

I don't know if rarepair.exe will help you. If you can't use Hyperterminal
to connect to the modem that I think something more fundamental is wrong.
Either the modem is toast or you have the wrong COM port set.

Thanks for your comments Ken they are most welcome. I have spoken to
Toshiba Global Repair who are certain it is an XP problem but I am
with you on the theory that the modem has been fried. Hopefully after
the Christmas period is over the machine will go back to Toshiba
repair for investigation.

Thanks

Jon
