error 5783

Recently updgraded NT4 domain to 2K w/Active Directory.
One of my domain controllers keeps getting a 5783 error
in the System Event log:

The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000
Domain Controller \\PDC for the domain COB is not
responsive. The current RPC call from Netlogon on
\\EXCHANGE to \\PDC has been cancelled.

This message appears on the \\EXCHANGE server, which is a
domain controller. AD seems to work fine, but, I get
this message every couple hours.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The error looks to be a problem with either DNS or RPC, and given that this
is a new AD network I'd bet on DNS. Do you have DNS installed within the
AD, and are there any DNS errors noted?

I've got DNS installed on both my 2K servers. However,
sometimes my servers and PC's will resolve our internal
names to something.something.yahoo.com. Not sure why it's
bypassing our internal only DNS and going for our ISP
DNS. If I clear the internal DNS server cache, it
usually fixes it for awhile, then it will go back to the
yahoo.com name.

First, do you have all domain members configured to look only at your AD DNS
for name resolution and the AD DNS set up to use outside resolvers to
complete lookups outside your network? If not, this needs to be done on all
computers (client and server) within the network.

Second, are you using a unique domain name? One that does not resolve to an
outside domain? Your domain name should be something (like MyDomain.local)
that cannot possibly resolve to a real-world name (like MyDomain.com).

Finally, how 'clean' are your servers? Do they get used for tasks like Web
surfing and Email? If so I'd be considering the possibility that one or
more of them has been compromised by spyware or adware or such.
