chaque fois que j'essaie d'installer un logiciel, je reçois le message
d'erreur:
unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted

error 5: access is denied

ceci se produit depuis que j'ai effacé par erreur des fichiers d'une
clé usb. en réalisant mon erreur, j'ai essayé d'arrêter le processus
en appuyant sur ANNULER.

Ma config: XP pro avec amd athlon xp 2600+
60 Go ROM
512 meg RAM

Des suggestions?

i am facing this problem too.... the problem started when my pc got
effected by nhatquanglan (new folder virus). i dont know whether that
virus has changed my system settings or i have done some changes in
attempt to remove it. i ran combofix after that to fix the problems my
system had after removing nhatquanglan . now whenever i install some
application i get "unable to install in temporary directory. setup
aborted error 5 : access denied"

anyone with any solutions ?....

Thanks Phillpe for reply.I wish i could understand french. After a bit
of resarch i came to know that some installers create temporary files
and those file are created in temp directory. Same is the case with
some uninstallers. So those applications fail to work. Some how, i
guess, we have lost write permission on temp folder. I searched net
and i came across something like taking ownership of a folder. For
that you have to start your pc in safe mode and go to security tab on
properties of a folder. I did that but i didn't find any security
tab....So still my problem is unsolved.

I reported your query to the French website and this is the reply I
got:
first a search ...

didn't show any link between your virus and error 5.

This was followed by a more focussed search but the links I was sent

Well, my problem is now solved. The upshot of the discussion I carried
out on the French website is that tests should be done with firewall
and anti-virus tools being (one at a time) disabled or even
uninstalled.
my situation was that I had Comodo Firewall Pro and AVG. Uninstalling
Comodo enabled me to resume installing applications. Seems that
sofrtware auto updates that the user can't always control or a setting
which "restricts free movement" as it were, may be the cause of error
messages.
The bloke who helped me first directed me to
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix about
Combofix, a tool which as explained scanned my system and produced a
log file that I ran past someone in the know. That led him to give me
the advice described above
Careful! I also found this: "You should not be using Combofix unless
instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is a powerful tool
intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision
of an expert", NOT for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could
lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as
preventing it from ever starting again."
