did you have windows previously installed and then you reformatted and tried
to reinstall win xp because of this error? i think p3.sys is related to a
pentium 3 class chip....

p3.sys seems to be a P3 file...

Yes, i did have XP PRO installed but due to troubles with applications
installation (cannot launched applications after instal, error mess "
file missing...").
Also in control panel, add/suppress prog, i did not find any new prog
listed...

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are most
often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very
rare occasions the CD drive or installation CD is the problem.

actually it may not be a definite hardware problem, rather a lack of an
update possibly for your bios. if you had windows running previously, you
probably needed to download some update files from your motherboard
manufacturer. unfortunately, you reformatted your harddrive, so the files
(outdated ones) were removed completely. there has been some issues
discussed about p3.sys
enter the file name on this site and pull up all the prior discussions. in
addition, search the file at microsoft.com for some additional info. it is
likely that microsoft has some kind of resolution or work around the p3.sys
issue. also, it is possible that the site for the manufacturer of your
motherboard will have some additional info too.
