Error 5 when trying to start a service

When I try to start a service (Altiris Client Service, to be exact), I get
the following:

"Error 5: Access is denied"

I'm quite sure that it is a permissions problem of some sort. I am an
Administrator on this PC. I'm not sure where to look for the file(s) that
have the wrong permissions. I think it could be a Registry Key that has the
wrong permissions as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You need to check what account and password the service is using to logon.
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services
Select Service and check it s properties.
Look on the Logon tab
