Error 432

Cindy Baudoin

Not sure if I'm in the right group....but here is my
problem. I'm running on Windows 2000 and I'm trying to
install a D-Link DP-311P Wireless Print Server and I keep
getting the following error message: "ERROR 432 Setup has
detected that uninstallshield is in use. Please close
uninstallshield and restart setup." I called tech support
at D-Link and they tell me its a Microsoft issue. Is this
a Microsoft issue? And where can I find instructions to
fix this problem?

Uninstallshield is a program that developers use to wrap their product in.
It's what allows for the removal of their product when the user chooses to
uninstall it.
This technology/product isn't developed or owned by Microsoft.

It sounds like something is in the process of uninstallation but is
stopped/hung or maybe awaiting user input.
Try restarting the machine to see if that fixes the uninstallshield warning.
You could also try to end task on the running service using task manager
(hit ctrl+alt+del and click Task Manager button)
You could try to install the D-Link product via Safe Mode just to see if
it'll work, but I suggest not leaving the product installed in this state as
it may be missing settings.

If that doesn't work - call D-Link back and if they tell you it's our
problem again - have them explain why they think that. We may also be able
to conference you in with D-Link support should they continue to offer you
no assistance. If you need to call us, you'll want to speak with the
Applications, Performance and Printing support group.

Hi Cindy,

Here are some steps you can try to work around this error:

Check for the IsUninst.exe file (usually in the winnt folder). This is
created
whenever a new install is run. I have seen issues where this file was
corrupt.

1. Try to delete this file. Even as a local Admin. you may get "Access
Denied".

2. If you get Access Denied right click on the IsUninst.exe and confirm
Ownership and Permissions.

In some cases there were no Permissions granted to the
object. After taking ownership and assiging the proper rights you should be
able to delete this file.
