magic III) that works on other systems. the error

is in use. please close uninstallshield and restart
setup. error 432.

I can't find uninstallshield anywhere on my computer.
I've tried installing the game from safe mode. i can get

Hi Handyman,

Make sure you're using an Administrator account when
you try to install that game, otherwise it won't be able to
access your system fully, and may generate that error.

You are right - I am using administrator. What should I
use? I thought that was the "main" access. My boys have
set up two other access names. I really don't get XP :)

Thanks for the reply.

Hi handymom,

You *are* supposed to be using the Administrator
account when you install those games. Double-check
and be certain that you're using your Administrator's
account and if you are, then we should try Safe Mode.

To run Windows XP in Safe Mode to install the game
shut down your computer, and then press F8 when you
restart it to be able to choose to start in Safe Mode.

The reason for doing this handymom is to be absolutely
certain that no other programs are running while you try
to install your game which should therefore correct the error.

Okay - this is so frustrating. I had actually installed
heroes once in safe mode, which did allow me to install
the program. I uninstalled when I thought I was having
problems that might relate to the install.

ANYWAY, I re-installed in safe mode. Installation was
complete except for DirectX, which is always screwy if
you ask me :) The game is DirectX7. I assume XP
contains a higher version anyway.

So, I double click on the game icon, then I get an error
message that asks me to send the info to microsoft. But
it doesn't tell me what I need to do to fix it.

SO, I go to start/run/autorun from the game disk itself.
I get the start-up game menu with the music on my
computer. I get very excited :) Then, when I click
on "play" the start-up game menu disappears and it's as
if I never opened the program. I have waited for
something to happen for some time, but nothing does.

I changed the game properties to run in windows 95, which
didn't work, so I tried 98/me and even NT. I get the same
result every time.

Now, what do you think about all that? Thanks for your
nice and prompt replies. I think I may just throw this
thing . . .

Thanks,

Handymom

Did you install from the beginning using Compatibility Mode? If you didn't,
try uninstalling what you've got and then locating the setup.exe or
install.exe on the CD via Start/Run/Browse.

Holy cow - sorry to be so slow at getting this . . .
You've been VERY helpful - thank you so much.

The good The game is installed - and I installed
through safe mode. My boys have set up their own
accounts on XP, which I don't really understand all that
well. One of my boys has set himself up as administrator
so that his brothers can't mess up his own settings. The
game will now run from his administrator's settings (YAY)
but my son would rather not let his brothers use his
settings. We tried to set up another administrator
account, but the game still won't run from the second
administrator account. Can you only have one
administrator? The error message we get on the SECOND
administrator account is that the game cd rom can't be
found (insert game to cd rom is the message). The game
is in the cd rom drive, but the second admin. settings
don't see it.

Do you have a suggestion for this problem? Thanks again -
you've been great.

Hi Hobbymom,

Your son might have to use a seperate Administrators account
which he can share with his brothers and install those games
from, or share his password so they can right click the game's
..exe file and use the Run As... command to play using his name.
