We were running Instant Messenger 4.6 on Several Windows 2000 Advanced Servers without problems. MS forced the upgrade to 5.0 or higher recently. The following warning now litter the event logs if a users logs off with IM in the system tray. It does not matter if the user is actually logged into IM. The mear presence in the system tray at log off produces the following pair of warnings for every user that has this in their tray.

EventID: 4018 Category: Firing Agent Source:EventSystem
The COM+ Event System failed to fire the Logoff method on subscription {234D65D6-13EF-43FB-989E-07625E94F87E}. The subscriber returned HRESULT 800706BA.

Followed by...

EventID: 4106 Category: Event Service Source:EventSystem
The COM+ Event System detected a corrupt IEventSubscription object. The COM+ Event System has removed object ID {234D65D6-13EF-43FB-989E-07625E94F87E}. The subscriber will no longer be notified when the event occurs.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. I've found no solution, despite having
tried Will Eaton's suggestion at EventID.Net. The AppLog is now
flooded with Event ID 4106 under W2K SP4 when any of the following
badly behaved MS apps are used: Windows Messenger 5.0, MSN Messenger
5.0 & MSN Messenger 6.0.

For my observations, please see http://tinyurl.com/p65v

Hopefully, enough people will complain so that MS will finally FIX IT!

regards, Andy
