Error: 403 Forbidden

Hi - Problems. Web addresses: <www.earthsea.co.nz> which is the main
domain & <www.surfwriter.net> - which is parked in earthsea.co.nz.

The situation: Using FrontPage 2000, I've just changed the
"surfwriter" subdirectory within the "earthsea" directory to a subweb,
then published/uploaded to earthsea. Checked it all out and no
problems that I could see. But there were a couple of links I wanted
to update. So made the changes and tried to publish/upload again and
get the following FrontPage error messages:

The server could not complete your request.
Contact your Internet service provider or web
server administrator to make sure that the server
has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed. For
more specific information, click details.


The details as follows:

403 Forbidden
Forbidden You don't have permission to access
/surfwriter/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe on this server

I've tried checking my permissions in 'Security' under 'Tools', but
'Security' is shaded out (along with Thesarus).

BTW - when I last checked out www.surfwriter.net my pages had lost all
their images. Any help would be appreciated. bob

When publishing, make sure you are publishing to:

http://www.earthsea.co.nz/subwebname

and that all images, shared borders, and any other content is all within the
subweb, as FP will not manage links to content that is outside of the web or
subweb.

http://www.earthsea.co.nz/subwebname

and that all images, shared borders, and any other content is all within the
subweb, as FP will not manage links to content that is outside of the web or
subweb.

Thank you. I tried that and, unfortunately, another error message pops
up (this time a Windows error message rather than a FrontPage error
message). I've also done a 'Detect and Repair' using my original disk
1 and 'Security' is still shaded out under 'Tools'.:

You need to check with your host to see if you are allowed to have subwebs,
which it sound like you are not allowed, since you get a 401 and 403 error.

Security is normal grayed out locally, when it is grayed out on the server,
means the host doesn't allow you permissions to set unique permissions.

which it sound like you are not allowed, since you get a 401 and 403 error.

Thanks, Thomas. It's Saturday downunder, but my web host's help desk
was open for business and they've solved the problem. As you said, it
was a matter of them patching the sub-web config files. I
uploaded/published again and it's all back where it should be, except
one page. Thank you for your help. Bob
