Error 2755? Install Error and disappearimg Office applications?

A colleague is installing Office 2000 Premium on XP and finds that when he
installs any new applications, the Office applications 'disappear'. The
following appears in verbose.txt during the Office installation.....any
clues or pointers welcomed:
