Error 1706. Setup can not find the requested file

Hi There

I have just moved outlook.pst from one computer to another. Both computers
are running Outlook 2003 in XP Professional.

I basically copied over Outlook.pst from the one computer and overwrote it
on the new computer. This allowed me to bring the users e-mail from one
computer to the other.

However when I use the computer where I overwrote outlook.past, I get the
following error message:

Error 1706. Setup can not find the requested file. Check your connection to
the network server C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Office\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM

How do I stop this error message from appearing. I have tried system
restore, and also deleting the user, but this did not work. I am beginning
to lose the will to live over this issue.

Any help or advice offered will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Adrian

When does this error occur? When you try to open Outlook? Does Outlook open
at all? Are there any entries in the Application Event Viewer?

Have you tried inserting the Office CD and running a repair?

Hi There

Many thanks for this. In the end I had to uninstall Outlook and reinstall.
This resolved the issue.

Thanks for the reply. Outlook will open and I can see old mail but when I
click Send/Receive a Windows Installer box comes up and says "Preparing to
Install...." Then I received the error 1706. Where would I find the Event
Viewer?
