Error 1706 from MS Project when creating a PPT chart

When I create a powerpoint chart from a basic chart layout page (double click
to create chart) in PPT XP (SP3) I get Project 2000 trying to access
install.msi and I have to click on cancel many times to get through - I have
seen this on several PCs here - anyone seen this before? I can't find any
direct aricles on TechNet or KB. I'm running XP SP2 and have Office 97, 2000,
XP amd 2003 installed (and Project 2000)

I would probably run Help, Detect and Repair on all the applications
mentioned. It seems maybe your Project 2000 has an inappropriate file
association?
