Error 15100: The resource loader failed to find MUI file

hello people,

This problem is driving me nuts! I have searched and searched the net for a
solution to no avail. I'm hoping someone can help me!.

Problem: Windows Firewall stopped running, and when I try to start it, I get
"Security Center Can't Start Windows Firewall" mesg. Digging deeper into the
problem, I think I have narrowed the issue to a service precedent called "Bit
Filtering System," which fails to start.

When I try to start "Bit Filtering System," it greets me with the error mesg
in the subject line. I'm at my wits end in trying to solve this problem.
Please someone respond if you have suggestions or know of a solution. Thank
you

Hi,

There is no "bit filtering system" service in Vista, but there is a "base
filtering engine" service that the firewall service is dependent on. Have
you installed a third-party internet security program like Norton/Symantec
or McAfee?

Rick,

Thanks for responding. I didn't install any 3rd party security application.
I did install all the security updates, and a dvd emulator tool called
"Daemon Tools."

I uninstalled Daemon Tools because I thought maybe that caused this problem,
but the problem still exists.

What exactly does this error mean? I made sure that bfe.dll.mui file exists
in windows\system32 dir. That wasn't it.

Hi,

It may be that the file is corrupt or unusable. From an elevated command
prompt, run sfc /scannow to let the system detect and repair problematic
system files. For an elevated prompt, type CMD into the search line and
right click the entry that appears in the program menu, choose 'run as
administrator'. This is necessary in order for sfc to do its job.
