Error 1335

When I try to install Paint Shop Pro from CD I get the following error message:
"Error 1335 The cabinet file Data1.cab required for this installation is
corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, and error
reading from CD ROM, or a problem with this package."

I have attempted to install from the hard drive and get the same error. I
have confirmed that my Windows Installer version is 3.1.4000.2435 (Version
2). And I have repaired my installation of Windows XP. Yet I continue to get
this error when trying to install this program. My Operating System is
Windows XP Home Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service
Pack 2).

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Delete any temporary installation files.
Try this:-
Start>Run>cmd>ok
and there in the command prompt window type the followings:-
msiexec /unregister (press enter)
msiexec /regserver (press enter)

Then try to install to a different location.

Thank you for this advice. I ran the two commands. After the second one I saw
a Windows Installer window which said: "!Incorrect function. OK." When I
attempted to install my program I was presented with a window which said:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." What
shall I try next?

Hi,
Delete all teporary files from the following locations:-

Start>Run>services.msc>ok
Scroll down to Windows Installer and make sure that the service has
started. If it has started then stop that, set the startup type line to

Restart your machine.Disable antivirus.
Now just do the reverse. This time you enable the process.
Start>Run>services.msc>ok
Start the Windows Installer service>apply/ok.

I deleted the temp files. When I ran services.msc there was no listing for
Windows Installer. I rebooted and disabled McAfee virus scan and ran
services.msc again. There was no listing for Windows Installer or installer
to start. I concluded that Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

I then followed article 315346. Method 1: The path to Msiexec.exe is
C:\WINDOWS\System32. However, when I examined the registry MSIServer is not
found. Then following Method 2: "attrib -r -s -h
c:\windows\\system32\dllcache" was entered. But each following line,
beginning with "ren msi.dll msi.old" produced the response "The system cannot
find the file specified."

Recall that I have repaired my XP installation very recently. What should I
try next?
Thank you for your continuing help.

Additionally I followed article 315353 using the commands
"msiexec.exe/unregister" and "msiexec/regserver". Next I used regedit to
examine HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. System WAS listed in the Group or user names list.
Also, System showed full control checked. So I made no changes. I then
rebooted and attempted to install Paint Shop Pro. The installation failed
with the display of Error 1335.

I followed article 290301 and downloaded the Installer Cleanup Utility.
(Installer WORKED CORRECTLY for that!) The dialog box only listed the
applications that installed properly, not those that were failing. So I
elected not to do the cleanup. It obviously was not needed. Then I discovered
the real problem- I uninstalled my antivirus software using Add/Remove
Programs, rebooted, and attempted to install my new software. It worked with
no errors! So I will trash that antivirus.

Check Your memory

Hi, When all else fails do a full memory test, I have seen one posting, that says he fixed his problem by replacing dodgy memory (all else seemed ok)

Get Memtest32 and run a prolonged test

Hope this opens a new awenue to explore
