Error 1324. The path contains an invalid character.

I realy help fixing this error, here is my sad story.

Win XP Pro version 2002 with service pack 2
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor 2.41 GHz.
1GB of RAM
Home built PC

I am getting this error message now when I try to remove or reinstall Quicken.

“Error 1324. The path Quicken 2006 contains an invalid character.â€

Thought I was being security wise by having installed Quicken 2006 onto a
USB memory stick and running it as a removable drive. This worked fine until
I installed a new printer that had a USB port on it. This changed the drive
letter on the USB port I used for the Mem stick from F: to H:. Quicken
wouldn’t work until I changed the Quicken Desktop Icons path to the new Drive
letter. Then I found I couldn’t’ download new transactions from our online
bank because it didn’t recognize the path or something (don’t quite recall)
it was related to the fact the drive letter had changed. Since I couldn’t
figure out to have the bank recognize the new drive letter for downloads, I
decided to remove and reinstall Quicken onto the PC’s regular hard drive
“C:â€, and use the security features in the software instead of having this
USB drive problem happen again with future upgrades. When I went to the
Control Panels uninstall feature and tried to remove Quicken, it gave me this
Error 1324 message and wouldn’t let me uninstall. I tried to Do an Install
from the original Quicken CD and got the same “Error 1324 The path Quicken
2006 contains an invalid character†message.

So now I unwisely decided to try to manually delete all Quicken folders and
files that were on the C: drive to see if I could remove enough to get rid of
the error message. No Dice.
I downloaded ErrorKiller from a website and tried that out to see if it
would fix the error. No Dice.
The C: drive has been through a Scan Disc and Defrag since and I am in way
over my head with this problem and don’t want to make it worse than I already
have. I know there must be more references to it in the Registry but I don’t
know how to safely remove them.
Please help, the wife gets a bit distraught when she cant have her Quicken
to work with.

No idea about Quicken but under XP it's no problem to
change the drive letters. Maybe it's not too late...

Thank you for responding to my problem, but I believe it is too late for the
drive letter change to be of help. I did try that, before the manual deleting
of the Quicken files. I uninstalled the printer that caused the change and
changed the drive name back to the original letter but it still gave me the
error message. Some registry file had been changed and was not allowing the
software path to be identified by the bank. I have since deleted most of
Quicken files, at least from the Explorer file tree, to where it wont work
even if the drive letter was changed per the directions on the web link you
gave me. now I think It just needs to have Quicken purged from the Registry
so it will allow a reinstall onto the C: drive.
Am I right, can you direct me if so?
Thanks, Ron

I want to uninstall and reinstall Quicken too, or I will become distraught
soon myself. But after researching the registry tonight, I found that there
is a value in it such that Intuit won't allow Quicken's removal ("NoRemove,
as well as "NoRepair", and "NoModify"). I ran into the same situation I'm in
now and Microsoft people helped us get it off the computer, finally. It IS
possible, however, I have forgotten how we did it---for now. I am hoping to
get a response to a post I left tonight re: how to do this again. Just
thought I'd let you know about the barriers to removal in the registry. Hope
you find the help you need too...

Ron, I've been to Intuit's website for Quicken and found information there
that I never was able to find before. It gave this link for manual removal
info if the "ADD/REMOVE" doesn't work. I am not trying it tonight so won't
know how well it works out. Here is the link if you want to pursue the
directions further. Hope it helps...
