Error 1324. The path ? contains an invalid character (FSX)

I'm not able to install flight simulator X as it keeps coming up with the
error code:

"Error 1324. The path ? contains an invalid character"

This is straight after the options screen and when the installer bar gets to
computing space requirements. Fresh install of Vista 32Bit.

If I click ok on the message it comes up with:

Error: - 1603 Fatal error during installation

Consult Windows installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information

Any ideas? :(

If it's already asked for a path to install, try manually inputting the
path. Installers usually build default paths using something like %PROGRAM
FILES%/Flight Sim X ... etc. If the %PROG FILES% tag is bad in the registry,
or the installer is having a bad code day it can throw that error. 90% of
the time the error is caused by bad registry data. The other 10% is from bad
installers, usually from bad torrent downloads.

If the manual input on the install path works, check that your registry
value is a REG_EXPAND_SZ type variable instead of a REG_SZ variable. Can't
tell you off the top of my head where the key is tho.
