Error 1324. The path My Pictures contains an invalid character.

I have been getting this error more and more recently whenever I try to
install/uninstall software. I know I can get around it by creating/using a
second account.

This is the path C:\Documents and Settings\me\My Documents\My Pictures

Any ideas what is going on?

Are you attempting to install old software? If so then you might try
running the installer in the original OS emulation mode.

Open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ User Shell Folders

In the right-pane, set "My Pictures" path to as follows:

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures

Note that this is REG_EXPAND_SZ, not REG_SZ value type.

Thanks Ramesh,

You put me on the right track, except my XP didn't like %USERPROFILE%, but
by using the C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Pictures it
is fixed.
BTW it was a REG_SZ and still worked.
